ERP Recycling Day in Skerries PDF Print E-mail

Back in Jan this year, as President of the Skerries Chamber of Commerce I contacted the ERP (European Recycling Platform) to explore the possibility of holding a free Electrical Waste Recycling event in Skerries in 2009.

ERP ,who are permitted by Dept of the Environment to collect Electrical Waste ,had just launched a new campaign to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and agreed to hold an event .

After months of careful planning, the event took place on Saturday 19th September at the Old Mill Car Park. I am delighted to inform you that almost 30 tonnes of Electrical Waste was collected which I am told is the equivalent in weight of over four double-decker buses. The event was attended by Trevor Sargent (Minister of State) , Cllr Ciaran Byrne (Mayor of Fingal) , Martin Tobin (General Manager ERP) and the entertainment on the day was provided by 98FM who broadcast live from the Old Mill from 11am until 4pm.

I would like to thank ERP for providing Skerries with this “free of charge “recycling opportunity. I would also like to thank the residents and businesses of Skerries for supporting the event and making a positive contribution to the environment.
